Frequently Asked Questions 1. Do I have to purchase tickets in advance? Can I pay cash? Do I have to purchase tickets in advance? Can I pay in cash? Tickets must be purchased in advance. To maximize your chances of getting the day and time you prefer, please book well in advance. Tickets can be purchased with a Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover or PayPal. Cash is not accepted. Groups can pay by check. To purchase tickets by phone, please call Julia at 617-821-7667. Do you require a minimum number of participants for the tour to take place? Yes, we only run our tours with at least 4 people. Since this is a popular tour, tour cancellations have not happened yet. In case that less then 4 participants are registered you will be notified at least 24 hours in advance. We will issue full refund or suggest an alternative date, whichever you prefer. Do you offer private group tours? We welcome private group tours. Regardless of number of participants (1-12 people) the price of the tour is fixed. For our Group rates and tours please visit Contact Us and Groups page. We also can customize our tours to meet your group's needs. The tour is held rain or sine. If the weather is very inclement, e.g. heavy snow, the tour may be cancelled. If we cancel the tour, we will issue full refund or suggest an alternative date, whichever you prefer. We taste authentic appetizers, soup, main course, desert and drinks. Our customer say that enough samples served to make up for a meal. Do you have a kosher version of the Jewish Cuisine tour? We taste in 7 places and 6 of them are kosher. You will have to skip only one non-kosher place to keep kosher. Also the order of tasting is constructed in “kosher way” - we taste dairy products first and taste meats 30 minutes after dairy products. Do you have vegetarian version of the Jewish Cuisine tour? 6 kosher places have vegetarian options. 1 non-kosher place does not have a vegetarian option. We ask that you wait to shop until after the tour so that you can spend more time learning about history of food, enjoying the tasting, and discovering establishements' history. Hopefully, you will allow yourselves some extra time at the end of the tour to return to your favorite stores with the discount coupons we provide at the end of the tour. What is the maximum number of people in a tour group? We limit the tour to 12-13 people. Are bathrooms available during the tour? There is one bathroom break in the tour. In case of emergency we will try to find a solution. One of our friendly and knowledgeable Guides Will there be any place to sit down at during the tour? Is it a fast paced tour? During the tour we have stops with full sitting arrangement, stops when part of the group can sit, and stops where the group is standing. The tour is medium paced: the total distance covered during the tour is less than 1 mile. What about taking children on the tour? Our soft guideline is to welcome children from 12 years and older on regular basis. However parents, who know their children best, should decide if the three-hour tour is appropriate for your children ages 6-11. Children ages 6-12 pay 50% of regular price. For children younger then 6 we provide babysitting service for $10 per hour. Please contact us in advance for arranging the babysitting. Can we take photos during the tour? Please take still camera shots and enjoy your memorable pictures! I’m Brookline resident and know all the places – why would I take the tour? We have had many Brooklinytes on the tour who were surprised by how many delicious products, which are sold “next door”, they had never tried and by interesting stories the owners of Brookline establishments can share. I am just visiting New England - why would I want to take the tour in Brookline? No other guided walking tours about Jewish or Russian cuisine are offered in New England; and no other tours about Brookline and Brihgton, the unique Jewish and Russian neighborhoods, are offered. Are the tours offered only in English? We offer tours in English, Russian and Hebrew. Tours in English can be purchased through automatic registration system.
