The Jewish Advocate October 10, 2008 Program offers tours of Jewish Boston By Tracy Vence | | | Special to The Advocate Alan Maltzman has had plenty of tour-guiding experience. But as the director of Boston City-Walks, which up until this month offered four walking tours of Boston, Maltzman realized that something was missing. So he added a fifth option: the Jewish Cultural Walking Tour…But the Jewish Cultural Walking Tour is not the only Jewish-themed trek in town. Julia Goldberg’s Ahla Brookline Foods Tour explores the kosher and Jewish eateries of Brookline. Goldberg’s program began as a simple idea she had after attending an Italian food tour in the North End. She now offers two Jewish Cuisine walking tours every Sunday. The program also offers some history along the way, including a Brookline Highlights in Half Day tour, which combines Jewish food stops with a visit to John F. Kennedy’s birthplace. Though Goldberg has not taken Maltzman’s tour yet, she thinks it is a great idea. “There’s a lot of Jewish history in the North End at the beginning of the century,” she said. “I think that people should take both tours.” | | |
